In practice, a screwball is simply a "step left throw right" fastball, usually thrown with bullet spin. The effectiveness of the pitch comes from the ball being released at a different position than the other pitches. That is, the release position of the ball is 6 inches or so further left than the batter anticipates.

Discussfastpitch. The bullet spin has the axis of rotation pointed toward the catcher. The vast majority of pitchers simply throw a high fastball and call it a rise. Stand a little open to the catcher 15 to 45 degrees (think even 0 will work). Now just do some windmill arm circles without any scap involvement. You'll probably not feel any hip recruitment (it's just arm movements). Then do some arm circles and do a scap pullback as you pass by 12 o'clock.

What I personally look for is a PC who has placed pitchers at the collegiate level.

Just the force of the drive. Bad timing when the arm is ahead of the legs (which is a common issue) simply means the pitcher is arm dominant rather than drive dominant.
